My lovely box of books

An online friend recently sent me a lovely box full of Grace Livingston Hill paperbacks, and I've spent the better part of this afternoon happily occupied with one. You likely won't find her name in the list of great authoresses, and to be sure reading too many in a row is rather like eating a box of chocolates by yourself. However, they are delightfully innocent books with a great deal of charm and thoroughly enjoyable all around.

Well, that has got to be the best description of Grace Livingston Hill's books I've ever heard!

"reading too many in a row is rather like eating a box of chocolates by yourself"

Exactly! And

"innocent books with a great deal of charm and thoroughly enjoyable all around"

sums it up exactly! I realize I just quoted almost all your post, but it hit the nail on the head! I haven't read GLH in years (someone once loaned me a bunch of them), but my favorite one is Patricia. I must have read it 13 years ago, but I still think about it! I'm trying to find a copy locally before I resort to ordering it. Sorry about waxing nostalgic!

I love GLH. My favorites are "the best man," and one about two daughters who move to the country with their parents to get away from the world. They meet Christian young men, fall in love, convert, get married, etc. Such wonderful books. I think another one of hers is about a young girl from the country who lives with an aunt and uncle for a bit. There is a whole scenerio about a dress from Paris which is fashionable but modest and the aunt is jealous or some such thing because the girl has a nicer frock than the immodest one she wanted her to wear or something. Anyway, great books all around!!

Hi, Natalie! I haven't heard of this author, but from your description, the books do sound quite lovely. I will be seeking some out in the future! Thanks. :)
